Teeth whitening

Over time, the teeth can change color. Deposits coming from, for example, tea, red wine, coffee or cigarette smoke makes the tooth darker and give it a neglected appearance. Part of the pigments penetrate the enamel and no longer removes using the dental care conventional. But it is not only the external influences that deteriorate the complexion of your teeth. A genetic arrangement, an injury to the teeth, certain drugs as well as natural aging can also kill the teeth.
When whitening the teeth, the dental surgeon spreads a gel containing peroxide on them. This chemical advances to the dentin (the layer below the enamel). Peroxide causes oxidation (a chemical reaction with oxygen) with pigments. The pigments are "destroyed" and become imperceptible to the human eye. The tooth seems clearer to us.
Before proceeding with teeth whitening, there are a few important aspects to consider. Of course, we advise our dental clinic patients on this. For example, the teeth should not show caries or periodontitis. Any fillings will be examined, and we will clean your teeth thoroughly.
Recent research shows that teeth whitening poses no health risks. Nevertheless, during the treatment itself, the teeth are more sensitive, especially when they are in contact with cold or heat. It is for this reason that people with sensitive teeth should rather refrain from teeth whitening.
It is especially in these cases that veneers (ceramic veneers) present a good alternative. It is important to also consider that existing fillings will not be lightened by the treatment. The color changes will return after some time.
